What To Expect As A Board Member?
The Board of Directors plays a crucial role in guiding and overseeing the direction and operations of an organization like HerUpland. As a Board Member, your responsibilities and commitments would include the following:

- Stewardship of the Organization’s Mission: Your primary role as a Board Member is to steward the future of HerUpland. This involves understanding, upholding, and working towards the organization’s mission and values, ensuring that all decisions and actions align with its goals.
- Participation in Board Meetings and Annual Summit: Board Members are required to commit to attending bi-monthly meetings and an annual summit. These gatherings are essential for strategic planning, decision-making, and reviewing the organization’s progress.
- Active Participation in Working Towards the Mission: Beyond attending meetings, Board Members are expected to actively engage in initiatives and tasks that further the organization’s mission. This could involve a range of activities from strategic planning to community outreach.
- Opportunity to Seek an Officer Position: As part of the Board, you have the opportunity to seek an officer position within the Board, which may include roles like Chairperson, Secretary, or Treasurer, each carrying specific responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
- Committee Involvement: Board Members are required to join one or more committees within the organization. These committees might focus on various aspects such as finance, events, marketing, or specific projects aligned with HerUpland’s mission.
- Virtual Support and Event Attendance: The role also involves providing virtual support for the organization’s activities and, if possible, attending events in your area. This helps in increasing the organization’s outreach and impact.
- Three-Year Term with Opportunity for Renewal: The commitment to serve as a Board Member is for a 3-year term, after which there is an opportunity to seek an additional term. This duration allows for meaningful contribution and continuity in the organization’s leadership.
- Representing the Organization: As a Board Member, you represent HerUpland and its values both within and outside the organization. This can include advocating for the organization, networking, and helping to build partnerships and community relations.
